Finding a small business in Harare means asking in a WhatsApp group and hoping somebody answers. The businesses that most need to be found are the ones with no website and no listing anywhere.
A directory that lives on WhatsApp. A business lists itself by having a conversation, and can photograph its business card to have the details read off it. Customers search in ordinary language and get results near them, because the search understands which suburbs sit next to which. Phone verification and a fraud check run before a first listing goes live, and the community can flag one that is wrong. Businesses take appointments through it, and each gets a one-page website generated for it.
The directory was populated by automated collection rather than by asking businesses to sign up first, which is the harder half of starting a directory.
Counted from the directory. This is the studio's own product rather than a client engagement, which is why it is the one entry here that carries a name.
This page once carried claims that described the work inaccurately. They came down in an audit of our own copy, and each one went back up only when its numbers could be traced to something measured. A case study you cannot check is worth nothing to you, and one that turns out to be wrong costs us more than it ever earned.
